Darrin Verhagen, in tugging on a thread of viciousness which has remained subdued and understated for most of Shinjuku Thief’s back catalog, was surprised to pull up a 42 minute slab of sonic violence power electronics/noise which is as unmerciful as it is exquisitely crafted. Under his new power electronics pseudonym „E.P.A.“ we find a finely balanced tension between visceral chaos and deliberate nastiness. If all the Shinjuku Thief albums that preceded it suggest the ghostly existence of a dark world, „Black Ice“ delivers the map, the accelerator and the searing pain upon arrival.
