Description
On my first listen to this album, I was somewhat perplexed as to how I could describe it. Hide and Seek present us here with an evocative mix of guitar folk and darkwave, overlayed with a heavy Dead Can Dance/Cocteau Twins influence. All this arranged in a dynamic manner: sometimes driving, pushed by almost futurepop drum arrangements, sometimes pure dreamy atmospherics. When it works (as on the evocative “La Rose Blanche”, a stand-out track) it is a stirring mixture, blending melodic guitar, atmospheric keys and vaguely martial/post-industrial drumming in to a potent combination which manages to transcend the sum of its influences in to something satisfying and original.
